Tough conditions, including rain, at the Mohite Racing Academy circuit brought out the best in drivers at the 11th JK Tyre National Rotax Max karting championship 2014. Local lad Chittesh Mandody (Mohite Racing) won the first heat in Senior Max Category, only to see Vishnu Prasad (Meco Racing) displaying his mastery in the second heat. The pre-final and final rounds on Sunday will keep both on tenterhooks.
Mandody will take first place on the starting grid in the pre-final round, on the basis of victory in the qualifying heat, though both are tied on points.
Kush Maini (Dark Don Racing) timed his burst on the 11th lap to win the second leg in Junior Max category. He has also won the first heat and will rightfully assume pole position for the pre-final round.
Ricky Donison (BPC Racing) will follow him in second spot and third is Mirnal Chatterjee (Rayo Racing), moving up from fifth placing in the first heat to fourth in the subsequent one. The Micro Max category (drivers between seven to 12 years) was dominated by Yash Aradhya (Meco Racing) by winning both heats in style. Paul Francis and overall points leader Shahin Ali Mohsin will occupy the next two places.
The closest race at the Mohite Racing Academy circuit came in the Junior Max second heat, with Donison, Maini and A Ravindra, all three exhibiting aggressive driving in wet conditions after showers forced technical halt. Maini surged past Doninson on the penultimate lap to be in the clear during the pursuit on the final lap and took the chequered flag.
