Chess tournament: Adhiban holds Anand

B. Adhiban managed a 38-move draw against Viswanathan Anand and Vidit Gujrathi showed no mercy on D. Harika in the Tata Steel chess tournament here on Tuesday.

Following a Reti Opening, Anand did enjoy a marginal advantage but Adhiban found a way to exchange the pieces. Eventually, both players agreed to split the point.

Masters: B. Adhiban (1) drew with Viswanathan Anand (3); Anish Giri (Ned, 3) drew with Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 2.5); Vladimir Kramnik (Rus, 2.5) bt Peter Svidler (Rus, 1.5); Sergey Karjakin (Rus, 2) drew with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 2.5); Wei Yi (Chn, 2) bt Gawain Jones (Eng, 2).

Challengers: Vidit Gujrathi (3.5) bt D. Harika (1.5); Jeffery Xiong (USA, 2) drew with Jorden van Foreest (Ned, 2).
