Chennai (18-23 age group) and Delhi (16-18 age group) came up trumps in the inaugural NBA 3X National Championships, featuring 400 teams pitting three hoopsters each side on Sunday night and presented by Sprite. Both champion teams have qualified to compete in a 2013 FIBA/NBA Asia 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

Two Mumbai leg champion sides, Ghatkopar YMCA Clippers (below 18) and Mumbai Ballers (18-plus) joined winners from Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai to vie for the national crown. Chennai lost to Delhi 4-13 in the U-18 final. Chennai seniors made amends in 18-plus category, sneaking home 9-7 at the Inorbit Mall, Malad.

Chennai players Bopanna and Akhilan won a skills contest and may get a chance to be part of the global pool of players, from which NBA All-Stars Kobe Bryant and LeBron James will select to be part of the Sprite Team Sudden and Team Intense during NBA-All Star 2013 at Houston.

Four hundred sides took part in the 3-on-3 basketball event held in two age groups. NBA 3X Basketball was presented by Sprite and supported by Adidas, HP, Spalding and the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).
