The Fresh Water-Chennai District Volleyball Association ‘B' division league will be held from September 17 to 24 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium. Twenty-six teams are to be featured in the league.

The growing number of entries is attributed to the interest shown for volleyball by educational units. As many as eight colleges and universities figure in the list of competitors this time.

Detailing the features of the event, sponsored by Water World, A.K. Chittrapandian, Secretary, CDVA, said the 26 teams would be divided into six teams of four groups. The top two in each pool will make the super league quarterfinals.

The winner and the runner-up will be promoted to the senior division. The super league matches are to be played under floodlights. All the three courts will be used for the matches, which will be played over the best of three games.

Customs and Panimalar Engineering moved up last year and had stayed in the zone. State Police and State Bank were relegated. The latter is not taking part this time.

The eight educational institutions in the fray are, Panimalar ‘B,' Loyola College, VELs University, SRM Academy, Alpha Arts College, KCG College of Technology, Agarsen College and Rajalakshmi College. There are two State Police teams this time.

The championship will be inaugurated on September 17 by P. Thamaraikannan, Joint Commissioner of Police and V. Nandakumar, Deputy Director, IT, in the presence of Walter Dawaram, President, TNAA.
