The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has set up a Sport Integrity Unit to probe into allegations of sport frauds, including betting and match-fixing.

Addressing the 15th D P Kohli Memorial Lecture organised by CBI, Director Ranjit Sinha said on Tuesday, "The stated objectives of this Sport Integrity Unit include investigating and inquiring into matters related to sports fraud, combating malpractices in sports and coordinating with sports federations and law enforcement agencies.”

Mr. Sinha said in the past six months, the agency had held discussions with national and international stakeholders as also the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in this regard. “This would make India one of the very few nations in the world to have a dedicated unit set up as a part of its federal investigative agency to probe sporting frauds. Currently, the FBI (United States), the Australian Federal Police and a few other European countries have ‘sport frauds’ as part of their areas of focus,” he said.
