The reigning World and Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra will spearhead the Indian challenge at the shooting World Championship in Munich from July 31 to August 10.
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has announced 49 shooters including 23 juniors for the meet. Gagan Narang, unlucky to miss the final in Beijing, has been selected for three events (air rifle, free rifle 3-position and rifle prone), though he appeared for the trials in only one. Among the pistol shooters, Omkar Singh has gained the nod to compete in three events (air pistol, free pistol and centre fire pistol), while the seasoned Samaresh Jung could only make the standard pistol team, following the recent trials in Pune. The World championship will offer quota places for the London 2012 Olympics. The shotgun team will be announced shortly at the end of the ongoing trials at the Dr. Karni Singh range in Tughlakabad.
