Bindra happy with rule changes

December 13, 2012 12:31 am | Updated 12:31 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The upcoming National shooting championship will follow the existing rules, but World and Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra says the changes to be introduced in the World Cups next season will not only take the best shooters into the finals but also take the sport forward.

Bindra said the introduction of the decimal scoring system in the 10-metre air rifle event was a welcome move as the difference between 10.0 and 9.9 would not be one point any more.

“Now the difference will actually be 0.1 and you can easily make up,” said Bindra about the rule which will be tried on an experimental basis during the next season before a final decision is taken on its continuation or introduction into other events.

Lottery

Bindra, however, conceded that the zero start for the eight finalists would make it a bit of a lottery.

The finals from next season would be on a knockout basis, as was the case in rapid fire pistol in the last Olympic cycle, and end up with a duel for the gold medal.

Bindra appreciated the fact that the finals would be a longer affair henceforth to ensure the better shooters prevailed.
