With four of the eight lanes empty, one expected the race to decide the 25th National inter-zone junior athletics championship’s fastest boy to be a mediocre one here on Sunday.
But, Tamil Nadu’s Augustine Yesudas did not allow the thin field to let him down as he powered past the under-20 boys’ national record with a superb 10.57s run on his way to the gold.
Tamil Nadu dominated the event, winning three of the four 100m golds in the boys’ section and two in girls. Madurai’s S. Naveen won the u-14 gold with a meet mark while M.S. Arun took the u-16 title with a national record. Junior international S. Archana clinched her first national gold in the u-20 section.
