Asian youth chess: Indian girls bag five gold medals

Indian girls won five gold medals in the Asian youth chess standard championship that concluded in Sari Mazandran, Iran, on Wednesday.

R.B. Vaishalai defeated Vietnam’s Ngugen Hong Anh in the final round to garner seven points and finish on top in the under-12 category while B. Pratusha defeated Iran’s Hakimifard Rana to clinch the first place with six points in seven rounds in the under-18 section.

The others to top the table were S. Riya (u-14), D. Divya (u-8) and Savithrishri (u-6) with 6.5 points each.

Srija Seshadri (u-16), N. Priyanka (u-12) and Lakshmi (u-10) finished second in their respective age segments with seven points each. S. Ananya, with six points in the u-14, and F. Stella, with 6.5 points in u-10 categories, were third. Meanwhile, R. Rakshitta bagged the bronze in the u-8 segment with 4.5 points.
