Asian Games: Aarti Khakal knocked out in taekwondo

Aarti Khakal on Wednesday lost to Kazakhstan’s Ganiya Alzak in round 32 of the women’s 57kg taekwondo competition in the 17th Asian Games.

Aarti, 22, lost 8-15 to Ganiya Alzak at the Ganghwa Dolmens Gymnasium.

Aarti got off to a good start taking a 2-0 lead in the first round with her first kick but her 17-year-old opponent turned the tables in the next round, surging ahead to a 4-3 lead.

In the third round, Ganiya found another gear as her third kick earned three points. The Indian failed to respond to the challenge posed by the Kazakh and conceded 11 points as she became a mute spectator in the fight.
