Asian events postponed

March 31, 2014 11:18 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 12:43 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Three Asian cue sports events, scheduled to be held in Chandigarh from April 4 to 14, have been postponed due to visa issues.

“Due to the forthcoming elections and time constraints, which did not permit us to ensure visas to players in time for all participating (players from different) countries, the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) regretfully announces the postponement of the Asian under-21 snooker, the Asian billiards championship and the Asian Grand Prix,” BSFI Secretary S. Balasubramanium said a release on Monday.

Top cueist Alok Kumar, who is also the Secretary of the host Punjab Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), said, “I learnt that players from at least five countries — China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Iran — have not got visas. Apparently, they have not got clearances from various ministries. It is disappointing since we had been working hard for the last one month to organise the event.”

According to the BSFI, fresh dates for these events would be announced by the end of April.
