India ‘A’ men’s team overwhelmed Sri Lanka to annex the gold in the Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship.

In the women’s section, overnight leaders, Vietnam crushed Nepal 4-0 to total 11 points and get the gold.

India ‘A’ men’s side maintained their all-win record to finish with 14 points, well ahead of Vietnam and Iran who collected 11 each.

The Indians — represented by Krishnan Sasikiran, Surya Sekhar Ganguly, Parimarjan Negi and Deepan Chakraborty — had little difficulty in snuffing out a feeble challenge from the islanders.

Vietnam took the silver on the basis of better tiebreaking points while Iran had to be content with the bronze.

Managing 8 points, India ‘B’ took the fifth spot.

The India ‘A’ women, who had got a bye in the final round, ended on 10 points to take the silver.

India ‘B’ women went down to Iran 3-1 to spoil their chances of getting the silver. They ended on nine match points along with Iran and were placed fourth on the tiebreak losing the bronze to Iran in this section.
