Right folks. That's about that from me on day 4 of the Games. See you all at about 08:30 IST tomorrow. (And do keep an eye out for the Sally Pearson controversy on the website).

21:56 Some squash news. Ealier in the day Nicol David breezed through her semifinals and will play in the gold medal match tomorrow. England's top two seeds, James Wilstrop and Nick Mathew, will go head to head in the men's singles final.

Slowly but surely winding down in what has been a good day for India. They improved their medal tally - more importantly won more gold medals which helps them to retain second place in the standings for one more day at least. Australia continue to dominate the proceedings - they had an awesome day in gymnastics, picked up a few medals in swimming as well and are on course to finish the games well ahead in first place.

Followed some footage of Ashish Kumar's bronze-medal performance in gymnastics. Great achievement for many reasons. Probably India's most surprising medal so far of the week.

21:31 Manoj Kumar has won his bout 5-2. He did dodge a couple of drives made by his opponent.

21:29 Followed Australia's all-conquering performance against India in men's hockey which finished 5-2 to the visitors? If not - or even if you did - >here's the full report.

21:25 As the third round begins, Manoj Kumar leads by 2 to nothing.

21:21 Manoj Kumar opens his account with a nice drive. Still in the first round though.

21:20 Manoj Kumar of India in action against boxing.

This is the medals tally of the top three nations at 21:00 hours

Australia 33(G), 19(S), 17(B)

India 14(G), 11(S), 9(B)

England 12(G), 23(S), 11(B)

21:05 Oh.. After England's failed protests, Nigeria have launched an official protest against Sally Pearson following the false-start fiasco.

21:03 Canada's Dylan Armstrong wins gold in the shot put. He breaks the Games Record with a throw of 21.02 metres.

21:02 Saina beats Cann of England in straight sets to give India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the semifinals in this mixed team event.

20:55 Saina Nehwal in action against Cann of England in the mixed team event in badminton. Remember this is the semi-finals. Saina is up a set and leading in the second 14-9.

20:50 Sharath is good, isn't he? Closes out the set and the match and sees India through to the semifinals. The Indian paddlers have been in awesome form this week.

20:45 It's all happening here that I'm fast losing track of time. I did see Kashyap of India playing in the mixed team event against England in badminton and pulling off a victory. I will try to get you the current match scores in that match-up as fast as possible.

20:43 Paddling action. India vs South Africa in the men's event, I presume. Sharath kamal in action and he's leading 2 sets to 1 against Overmayer. India are leading the match 2-1.

20:41 Sally Pearson's gold medal is safe around her neck. Just received confirmation that her win was officially confirmed.

20:39 The Scottish duo oust Leander Paes and Sania Mirza in straight sets. Upset?

20:30 Leander Paes and Sania Mirza in action in the mixed doubles. The Indians - in action against the Scots - are trailing by a set and are down 5-3 in the second.

20:14 India did win another shooting gold. Omkar Singh and Gurpreet Singh did win gold for India in the men's 10 mtr pistol.

20:10 Some men's singles action in badminton in the mixed team event. The semifinal between India and England.

20:00 I can finally confirm that England have lodged a protest (See: 19:26).

19:54 More CGR's broken. Canada's Sultana Frizell wins the women's hammer throw event with a new record time of 68.57 metres.

19:43 In the men's 100 mtr final, England's Mark Lewis-Francis finished in second place ahead of Aaron Armstrong.

19:41 I don't really know whether the judges are looking further into the women's 100 mtr fiasco. However. what I can tell you is that Nigeria's Oludamola finished in second with Natasha Myers rounding the top three.

19:39 I have just been informed that Australia get a 1-2 in the women's uneven bars with Lauren Mitchell winning the gold.

19:35 Jamaica can do it without Usain Bolt. Lerone Clarke gets the gold in the men's 100 mtr followed by England.

19:26 Wow. England have protested the false start (they think Pearson false started). If it comes through Pearson would be disqualified. It's all happening. Unbelievable.

19:24 Actually there was drama before the start. England's Laura Turner was disqualified and she had to walk even before the race started. But she did run even if meant nothing.

19:24 India pull one back through the penalty corner but that's all they have got time for. It finishes Australia 5-2 India. India did not take their chances - and they had decent ones in the first half.

19:22 Breathless from start to finish. And Australia's Sally Pearson gets the gold with a time of 11.28 seconds.

19:20 And a false start. Oh dear. Tension on every one's faces.

19:17 On your marks....

19:15 Women's 100 mtr final coming up. Hold your hats.

19:11 Australia have been impervious and once again put the foot on the pedal to bring their fifth goal. Just like watching Barcelona play football to be honest.

19:07 Going from bad to worse as Australia hit their fourth. Game, set, match or a miraculous escape? I still wouldn't wager because one never knows with Indian hockey.

19:00 And Australia extend their advantage from the penalty corner. A drive along the carpet is deflected and flies into the goal. 3-1 Australia. Still 21 minutes to go. India fans, do remember, India did come back quite admirably against malaysia to win the encounter 3-2.

18:59 Ohenewa Akuffo of Canada wins gold in the women's 72 kg freestyle wrestling. She beat Annabel Ali of Cameroon.

18:56 The second half is under way but Australia still having the one goal advantage.

18:46 Nigeria's Abugan finishes first. Manjeet finished third with a time of 53.04.

18:44 Back to action in the track and field. It's the third semifinal in the women's 400 mtr. India's Manjeet Kaur in action.

18:39 Australia has the slender advantage at the break.

18:33 Another penalty corner for the Indians. Only four minutes on the clock for the first half to finish.

18:25 India are pretty much bossing things against Australia but can't find the equaliser. But there's still plenty of time for that to change.

18:23 England's Cairns wins gold in women's vault.

18:21 Justine Bouchard of Canada wins gold in women's 63 kg freestyle wrestling.

18:20 So close to finding the equaliser. A drive from outside the D is almost diverted in but the ball catches the end of the stick and flies away. India have also got two penalty corners in the last five minutes or so.

18:17 And out of my eye the men's hockey clash between India and Australia has begun. Australia leading India 2-1 at this stage. There's about 18 minutes of the first half remaining.

18:09 Medals coming thick and fast and i'm having trouble with the remote. Rebecca Adlington of England wins the women's 800 mtr freestyle. After initially having some doubts over her availability because of health, she has come out and answered it in the best way possible.

18:06 Suman Kundu of India beats her South African opponent to take the bronze medal in the women's wrestling freestyle 63 kg category.

18:04 I have confirmed that Geeta indeed did win the gold.

17:58 PTI says Geeta has won a gold in the 55kg Freestyle Wrestling category beating Emily Bensted of Australia. Will get back to you as soon as I have something.

17:57 Nigeria's Oludamola finishes first. Geeta was out of the blocks like a rocket but could not keep up the momentum and does not qualify for the final.

17:53 Just moments before the start of the second semifinal in the women's 100 mtr. Geeta Satti of India in lane 2.

17:49 And the first semifinal in the women's 100 mtr is over. After a few false starts... (what is that about practice makes perfect?)... Jamaica's Myers comes through in first place.

17:42 India’s Ashish Kumar wins bronze in floor exercises in Gymnastics.

17:38 And Australia have another gold. Pichler win's men's floor gold in gymnastics.

17:37 South Africa's Chad Le Clos wins gold in the individual medley.

17:35 Changing channels every five minutes is not fun. Into the final of the men's 400 mtr individual medley.

17:32 India beat England 3-0 in women’s table tennis team championship to reach final.

17:29 Du Toit of South Africa wins gold in the women's S9 100 mtr freestyle.

17:27 Here's the latest medals table. England has 33 medals to India 28. But India are second on the virtue of having won more golds.

17:25 Canada draws England 1-1 but there are contrasting scenes at the stadium. England look dejected while Canada look ecstatic.

17:17 Carol Huynh of Canada gets the gold in the women's 48kg (freestyle) wrestling. India's Nirmala Devi wins silver.

17:13 Some wrestling action. Nirmala Devi against a Canadian.

17:08 Fifteen-year old Yolane Kukla wins the first semifinal in the women's 50 mtr freestyle. I had not even had a swim when I was 15. Terrific achievement. (Should I say she is from Australia?)

By my reckoning India are still second in the medals tally but England have got more medals than India. 27 to 26. Couldn't be more close.

16:56 Ashley Delaney wins the second semifinal of the men's 100 mtr backstoke and he does it in CGR time. (CGR stands for Commonwealth Games Record. Apologies for not having mentioned that before).

16:50 India's Ronjan Sodhi gets silver in men's (singles) double trap event. Asher Noria misses out.

16:48 Coming up. The men's 100 mtr backstroke first semifinal. Daniel Bell, Kiwi, comfortably wins the first semifinal and wins it with a CGR time.

16:42 Canada's Brent Hayden claims gold in the men's 100 mtr freestyle. So Australia are not exactly unbeatable in the pool.

16:32 S. Walton gets gold in men's (singles) double trap. However there is a three way tie between 2nd, 3rd and 4th place and they will have a tie-breaker coming up. Both the Indians, Sodhi and Noria, are in the tie-breaker.

India's Human Resources Department Minister Kapil Sibal hands out the gold medal to Alicia Coutts. Her third of the Games. Stephanie Rice, are you watching? Ok that's my one for the evening.

16:20 Asher Noria and Ronjan Sodhi in action in the men's (singles) double trap in the shooting range but England's S. Walton leads the proceedings.

16:18 Sudhir Kumar of India wins bronze in men's 77kg weightlifting category.

16:13 Emily Seebohm, who has been a bit disappointing so far, eases her way into a CGR record in the women's 50 mtr backstroke semifinal.

16:09 But all the speculation regarding the pool is put in the backburner and we have our first swimming medal of the evening. Alicia Coutts gets her third gold medal of the week. Incredible from the Australian. It was in the women's 100 mtr butterfly.

(see 15:58). Let me rephrase. Tests could be held on the water in the pool to find if there is some contamination. Michael Fennel, CWG Federation chief, talking earlier to AP, refused to speculate on the matter.

16:03 India, which qualified to the semifinals of the mixed team event in badminton, will face England later today for a place in the finals.

15:58 Major news coming through. Remember reading reports about swimmers taking ill? The cause looks to be dodgy water from either the main pool or the warm-up pool. I will keep an eye out for this one as and when this comes out. Meanwhile, England are leading 4-3 in the tie-break.

15:53 Men's doubles quarterfinal action. Indian duo Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes in action. They are up a set but can't prevent the second-set from going into the tie-breaker. Their opponents are from England; Goodall and Ward.

15:44 England beats India in men's team compound archery. On the last shot, with England requiring eight to win, they get a nine. India gets silver while England gets gold .

15:41 It's not exactly neck and neck after five round each. England leads India 148-143.

15:33 That's fast. After beating South Africa in the semifinals, the Indians are up and about and facing England in the finals of the men's team compound event. India are leading 114-89 but England do have three shots on hand.

15:27 And that's the end of that. He has beaten Qadir Khan 7-0. In all the excitement, I forgot to mention the name of the event. It's the bantamweight category.

15:26 Akhil is running away with this match. He has built up a 7-0 lead.

15:24 Commentators curse? Akhil immediately goes 5-0 up before unleashing a string of right hand drives but nothing connects, luckily for Qadir.

15:22 End of the second round and it stays at 4-0. A more measured approach from Akhil and rightly so because he has built a decent lead.

15:20 90 seconds to go before the second round finishes. Akhil has now doubled his advantage. It's 4-0 to India.

15:15 Just 10 seconds for the first round to finish and Akhil is already 2-0 up. Solid defensive work but not forgetting to attack his oppoenent. There was even a tangle of hands in there.

15:13 India's Akhil Kumar up against Pakistan's Qadir Khan in Boxing. Get the upper-cuts on the ready. This is going to be a cracking game.

15:12Sania Mirza has beaten New Zealand's Marina Erakovic 6-2, 6-3 to progress to the semifinals of the women's singles.

The men's team compound event in Archery is also looking promising as the Indians dispatched off the South Africans - after some hardship - to reach the finals.

Hello folks. It's been another rewarding day for India at the shooting range with India's Vijay Kumar-Gurpreet Singh grabbing a gold medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (pairs) event.
