As part of the Government policy to encourage sportspersons, 111 men and women who had won medals in various disciplines in the last national games held at Jharkhand last year were awarded prize money by the additional chief secretary (youth welfare and sports development) G.A. Rajkumar here on Friday.
At the function organised by the SDAT, prize money amounting to Rs. 30 lakh was given away. Gold medal winners in individual sports received Rs. one lakh, silver medallists Rs. 50,000 and bronze medallists Rs. 25,000. Winners in team sports received Rs. 20,000 for gold, Rs. 15,000 for silver and Rs. 10,000 for bronze. The biggest chunk of Rs. 4.75 lakh went to the karatekas, both men and women. Next, came table tennis players who received in all Rs. 3.90 lakh.
