Indian women’s compound team, comprising Trisha Deb, Gagandeep Kaur and P. Lily Chanu, won the country’s first-ever World Cup medal.

The trio, playing Italy (Katia D'Agostino, Laura Longo and Marcella Tonioli) in the bronze medal play-off in the World Cup archery Stage I at Shanghai on Saturday, won 228-223.

The bronze medal match was a re-match of last year at the same venue when Italy had triumphed over an inexperienced Indian trio of Gagandeep Kaur, Parveena and V. Jyothi Surekha, 230-217. India led by two points after the first end, four at the halfway mark and three after the third end.

Shooting first in the last end, Italy landed two 8s, while India concluded the match with 8-9-10-10-10-10 for a deserving victory.
