Anisa Sayyed beat Olympian Rahi Sarnobat 8-6 to emerge on top in the selection trials for the 25-metre sports pistol at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Tughlakabad, on Tuesday.
After having won the first trial over the World Cup gold medallist, Anisa was in trouble after the fifth series (4-6), but managed to win the next two to emerge triumphant.
Pushpanjali third
Pushpanjali Rana pipped Olympian Annu Raj Singh 7-5 for the third place. Pushpanjali beat Sushma Singh 2-1 in the shoot-off to qualify for the bronze medal match, after being tied on 11.
Anisa had topped the qualifiers with a score of 583, while Rahi (582) and Sushma (581) followed closely.
In men’s air pistol, Amit Kumar Pilaniya topped with a total of 202.7, as he beat Jitu Rai by 1.4 points.
Jitu Rai topped the qualifiers with a score of 581, one point ahead of Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar. Amit Kumar was sixth on 576, before he surged to the top in the final.
In the men’s 50-metre rifle prone event, Sanjeev Rajput beat Pankaj Gurung by half a point with a total of 205.7, as he delivered 10.7 and 10.6 on the last two shots.
He had trailed by 0.2 point after 43 shots in the final. Sushil Ghaley, Shivaji More, Satyendra Singh, Sudeep Kumar, Pradeep Kumar Sharma and Surendra Singh Rathod were placed third to eighth in that order.Ironically, Surendra Singh Rathod had topped the qualifiers with a total of 617.7, a mere 0.1 point ahead of Sushil Ghaley.
In the women’s rifle prone event, World Cup silver medallist Lajja Gauswami continued to dominate as she scored 591 points, one point ahead of Meena Kumari and Elizabeth Susan Koshy.
Raj Chaudhary, world champion Tejaswini Sawant, Kuheli Gangulee, Shikha Dhall and Vedangi Virag were placed fourth to eighth respectively.
