International referee Angela Rajan Naik has been appointed a member of the Referee Committee of the Commonwealth Taekwondo Union (CTU).

Naik is the first Indian to receive this appointment.

“I will always keep India’s flag flying high at the National and International arena, be it as a player or international referee. I have worked hard to reach where I am today with my discipline and dedication for the Korean Martial Art Taekwondo, since its introduction in Goa in 1986,” Naik, who celebrates her birthday on Saturday, said.

In September, 2015, Naik became the first Indian to be inducted into The Official International Taekwondo Hall of Fame held at Croatia.

She was named the Best International Referee at the 2016 Qatar Open.

She is also the first Indian female Grandmaster with 7th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, Kukkiwon, Korea.

She has been a Gold Medalist at the Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship.

The Goa-based international referee has represented India as a player since 1990, and has refereed three World Championships and four Asian Championships.
