After the qualifying session on Saturday, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who chose the slower but medium tyres, said the fate of the race on Sunday would depend on the durability of the soft tyres.
“The soft may last with good conditions and pace long enough, (then) people in front will not have much problems. But if the soft (tyres) are a disaster tomorrow, people in front will have problems.
“It will depend how soft tyres behave but if we have the pace, the car is responding well like it did in qualifying, we (will) have good performance.”
“Felippe (Massa) and me want to help the team (second with 297 points) and hopefully score more points than Mercedes (287) tomorrow.”
Mark Webber, who also opted for the medium tyre in contrast to his teammate Vettel’s soft, was happy with his fourth place in the qualifying. “It turned out to be a good session for us. It is not easy to manage the primes when you just get a look at them in Q3, but I think we did a good job.
“We will see where Sebastian and Mercedes pit and there are two races going on — there is a race in the front and a race on the back. We will try to lap up some points,” said Webber.
