Akshay and Avdesh crash out

Delhi’s youth national champions Akshay Nain (400m) and Avdesh Nagar (1500m) crashed out after the heats at the IAAF World under-18 athletics championships here on Wednesday.

Akshay had clocked 48.56s in the Youth Nationals in Hyderabad in April but he could manage just a 50.24 in his heats in Nairobi while his teammate Manish also fell after clocking 50.78.

Avdesh, who broke the meet record in Hyderabad clocking 3:57.26s, was nearly 13s slower while finishing 10th in the boys’ metric mile.

D. Jyothika Sri of AP also bowed out after finishing fifth in the girls’ 400m heats in 57.15s.
