KOCHI: With an aim to bring some fresh legs for the 400m event and the mile relay team for next year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has decided to conduct an exclusive National championship in the 400m this year.

The inaugural National 400m championships for men and women and boys and girls (under-20, 18 and 16) will be held at Dharamsala on October 22 and 23.

The AFI hopes the championship will throw up some new talent which will bring in more depth in the 400m and the relay.

The AFI will also conduct a javelin throw Nationals later this year to give a boost to the event which has brought in some impressive results at the last Asian and World junior championships. The dates will be announced later.
