AFI finalises trials for CWG, Asian Games

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has fixed the national inter-state championships at Lucknow in June and the Federation Cup championships at Patiala in August as the selection trials for this year’s Commonwealth and Asian Games respectively.

The inter-state event is to be hosted by the Uttar Pradesh association from June 18-22 ahead of the CWG in Glasgow from July 21 to August 4.

Federation Cup athletics is slated from August 16-19 prior to the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea from September 28-October 5.

The second national open race walking competition, to be held as selection trials for the Asian race walking championship, is scheduled at Kochi on February 8 and 9, as per the AFI’s yearly calendar.

National youth (under 18) athletics, scheduled at Panaji from May 2-4, would serve as the selection meet for the Youth Olympic qualifiers. The second Youth Olympic Games are to be held at Nanjing in China from August 16-28.

This year’s Open Senior Nationals are scheduled at Patna from October 10-13 while Jhansi is to host the national cross-country event in December 2014 or January, 2015.

The junior nationals are to be held at Vijayawada (November 26-30) to be preceded by the junior national inter-zonals from November 1-3 at Ranchi.

Federation Cup for juniors would be held from May 9-11 at Chennai.
