Eight-time world champion Pankaj Advani blanked Briton Matthew Selt 4-0 to qualify for the Indian Open snooker championship to be held in New Delhi in October.
Advani, India’s highest-ranked professional snooker player at 73, was put under pressure in the very first frame as Selt opened with a break of 53 at the Doncaster Dome in Sheffield, UK.
Responding well to the deficit, the Indian cleared the table with a run of 62. There was no stopping Advani after that.
With fluent breaks of 44, 54 and 65 in the subsequent frames, the Indian whitewashed Selt with some flawless potting in under two hours.
Aditya Mehta (ranked 74), pitted against China’s Xiao Guodong, is the other Indian who is vying for a berth at the Indian Open.
