Olympic champion swimmer Rebecca Adlington has advanced to the 800-metre final at the Commonwealth Games.

The English swimmer, who won the 400-and 800-metre freestyle golds at Beijing in 2008, was the second-fastest qualifier on Wednesday in a time of 8 minutes, 35.82 seconds. South Africa’s Wendy Trott led all qualifiers for Thursday’s final with a time of 8-34.34.

Adlington was scheduled to be part of England’s team in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay later Wednesday.

Adlington’s teammate James Goddard was fastest qualifier for the 200-metre backstroke final. Australia’s men led qualifying for the 4x200-metre relay, followed by England.
