ONGC (Dehradun) defeated Air Force (New Delhi) 79-71 in the final league match to finish with three wins out of three and win the 56th all-India basketball tournament for the P.D. Chidambara Sourya Naraynan memorial Trophy at the PSD memorial flood-lit courts here on Wednesday.

Three teams — Vijaya Bank (Bengaluru), Air Force (New Delhi) and Indian Navy (Lonavla) — finished with two wins each, but Vijaya Bank, with a better quotient of 1.20, finished runner-up.

Air Force, with 0.99, finished third and Indian Navy (0.84) fourth.

Vishesh Bhriguvanshi (ONGC) was declared player of the tournament.

N. Venkatachalam, Theni District Collector, gave away the prizes.

The results: Vijaya Bank 83 (Karthikeyan 66, Aravind 30) bt Indian Navy 56 (Faizal 11, Bipin Chacko 11, Jeetendar 10).

ONGC 79 (Vishesh Bhriguvanshi 33, Trideep Rai 12) bt Air Force 71 (Narendar 19, Rathee 16, Parveen 15).

Cricket trials The Thanjavur DCA will conduct cricket trials to select the under-14, 16, and 19 teams at Olympian Kittu memorial ground, Thanjavur. The trials for the under-14 and 16 teams will be held on May 23 at 7 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. respectively.
