Mark Webber edged Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel to claim pole position in qualifying on Saturday for the British Formula One Grand Prix.
Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were third and fourth, with Jenson Button in a McLaren fifth.
Light rain began falling two minutes 30 seconds from the end of the final 10-minute qualifying stint, preventing a late challenge on Webber.
The Australian, who won at Silverstone last year, set a fastest time of one minute 30.399 seconds on his first lap in the final qualifying session, 0.32 seconds faster than Vettel.
It was the second pole of the season for Webber after qualifying for the Spanish GP on May 22, with runaway championship leader Vettel at the front of the grid for the seven other races.
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton was one of the drivers to suffer from the late rain and had to make do with 10th.
Fellow Brit Paul Di Resta in a Force India was sixth, followed by Pastor Maldonado in a Williams, Kamui Kobayashi in a Sauber and Nico Rosberg in a Mercedes.
