Seven—time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher is out to defend the nation’s title at the upcoming Race of Champions together with F1 title holder Sebastian Vettel.
Schumacher said on his website on Monday that the drivers have success on their mind even though the fun factor comes first at the Saturday event.
“Of course, we are all professional drivers so the moment we close the visor we want to win, but that’s really only one part of it,” Schumacher said.
The competition in Dusseldorf sees stars from different motor sport disciplines — including Formula 1, world rally, touring cars, Le Mans and the X—Games — compete against each other in identical machinery on a specially constructed parallel track.
Schumacher said that if he had to choose between winning the individual title and the Nations Cup, he would opt for the latter, even if it prevented him from being at his best for Sunday’s individual competition.
“Celebrating with Sebastian has become a very fun thing to do, so I am totally fine with us winning the ROC Nations Cup again — the problem then usually is the party afterwards which kind of compromises the next day a bit.”
