Schumacher: No decision on F1 future until October

July 05, 2012 10:00 pm | Updated 10:00 pm IST - Silverstone, Britain

Record world champion Michael Schumacher said on Thursday he will not reach a decision on his future in Formula One racing until October.

Schumacher, 43, is in the final season of a three-year contract at Mercedes, but allegedly has an option to extend it.

“There can certainly be no decision from my side before October,” Schumacher said at the British Grand Prix.

The statement came after Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn called for a decision on the team’s drivers for 2013 within six weeks. The season runs until November 25.

The seven-time world champion Schumacher came out of retirement in 2010 to drive for the German team. He was first in qualifying for the recent Monaco Grand Prix and got his first podium finish since his comeback two weeks ago at the European Grand Prix.
