Pleased as punch: Vishnu Prasad, right, won both of Sunday’s races to sweep the Euro 17 category over the weekend.

Vishnu Prasad and Chittesh Mandody overcame stiff challenges to clinch a double title each in the opening round of the JK Tyre FMSCI National racing championship at the Kari Motor Speedway on Sunday.

With the reverse grid coming into play, Vishnu who had won both races on Friday, started from P6 in the opening Euro JK 17 race. That did not matter, the Chennai youngster harried the front runners right from the start.

One by one, he overtook pole-sitter Vikash Anand, Nayan Chatterjee and Anindith Reddy, and went on to clinch the race.

It was a lot easier for Vishnu in the second race as he started from pole.

In the LGB4 class, Mandody had it tough, especially in the second race that saw the red flags coming down twice.

It was Vishnu who gave the Kolhapur lad a run for his money with a series of daring overtaking moves. But Mandody pushed that extra bit when it mattered.

The results:

Euro JK 17: Race 1: 1. Vishnu Prasad, 2. K. Anindith Reddy, 3. Nayan Chatterjee. Race 2: 1. Vishnu Prasad, 2. Akash Gowda, 3. Vikash Anand.

LGB4: Race 1: 1. Chittesh Mandody, 2. Vishnu Prasad, 3. Saran Vikram. Race 2: 1. Chittesh Mandody, 2. Vishnu Prasad, 3. Sandeep Kumar.
