Motor racing buffs can expect some stiff contests in all four categories among top contenders in the fifth and penultimate round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship and Polo Cup here this weekend.
The Super Saloon class in the touring cars category will grab much attention, given the quality field that has four drivers with a realistic chance of winning the championship.
Heading the board is Vijaykumar Rajvirdhan of Prime Racing with 138 points, just ahead of veterans T R Radha Selvarajan (RAD Racing, 123) and B Vijaykumar (Prime Racing 100).
Behind them are defending champion Siddharth Kishore of Performance Racing (82) and seven time National Rally champion N Leelakrishnan of RAD Racing (76) who missed the opening two rounds, but put in solid performances in the last two rounds.
Both Rajvirdhan and Selvarajan have three wins each and two second place finishes. The battle between Kishore and Leelakrishnan with other proven performers in the fray should make for some lively fare.
Indian Junior Touring Car class has quite a few contenders with Diljith Shaji of LCT Sigaram Sports in the lead (158), followed by defending champion B Bala Vijay of Moto-Rev India (117) with four wins. Behind them are Shaji’s team-mate Jai Prashant Venkat (100) and Feroze Khan, son of former champion Ayub,of HCZ Racing.
The single seater Formula LGB Swift class also has five drivers in the fray led by Mars Racing duo of Deepak Ravikumar (118) and seasoned Ameya Walavalkar (100).
Walavalkar has won four races, but none in the other four, while Deepak has two wins, two podium finishes and a fourth place.
The next three spots are occupied by TVS Girling entries Narendhran S (90), Karthik Krishna (82) and Sandeep Kumar (82).
The single-make Volkswagen Polo R Cup series might see a close contest between Rahil Noorani (235), Vishnu Prasad (228), Avdumber Hedge (225) and Oshan Kothadiya (206). All four have won races, with Vishnu winning four. But an exclusion in the second race of the third round cost him precious points.
Free practice sessions begin today, followed by qualifying sessions and races on the next two days.
