November 23, 2011 02:53 am | Updated 02:58 am IST - Bangalore:

Bangalore and Hyderabad became the third and fourth franchises to be purchased in the i1 Super Series after Arjun Baljee and Rudra Dalmia were announced as the owners of the Bangalore unit and film actor Akkineni Nagarjuna as the owner of the Hyderabad team.

Baljee is the managing director of Peppermint Hotels while Rudra Dalmia is the director of RD Capital.

“I have been a motor sports fan for a long time. The idea behind the i1 Super Series is fantastic,” Baljee was quoted as saying.

“I am eagerly looking forward to the i1 Super Series and happy to be associated with it.

“I am confident that this series will prove to be the platform to showcase India as a powerful entity in the world of motor sports and entertain the young generation of India,” Nagarjuna said in a statement.

M. Darshan, CEO, i1 Super Series, said: “The response from potential team owners has been tremendous and we look forward to announcing the rest of the team owners within the next week.”

The Delhi and Mumbai teams were purchased earlier this month by Arindam Chaudhuri and Shah Rukh Khan respectively.
