Lewis Hamilton set the pace in both practice sessions on Friday for Sunday’s Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix.
After just edging McLaren teammate Jenson Button in the first practice, Hamilton was quickest again in a rain-hit second session with a best time of 1 minute 21.995 seconds, set when conditions were dry.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus was second, followed by Williams driver Bruno Senna, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, Button, Paul di Resta in a Force India, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, Romain Grosjean of Lotus and Michael Schumacher of Mercedes.
Hamilton had posted 1:22.821 on the 4.381-kilometre Hungaroring circuit in the first session, 0.101 seconds ahead of Button, while Alonso was more than half a second back.
A rain shower during the second session made conditions difficult, and seven-time world champion Schumacher was a victim of the greasy track when he lost grip and slid into a tyre wall.
The crash on Turn 11 demolished the front nose and ended the session 30 minutes early for the 43-year-old German, who had gone out in similar fashion in practice in Hockenheim a week ago.
