Lewis Hamilton got pole on Saturday and Jenson Button is next to him in the first row, as McLaren shocked Ferrari in qualifying for their Italian Formula One home Grand Prix.
Hamilton posted 1 minute 24.010 seconds for the lap of 5.793 kilometres at the Autodromo Nazionale for his fourth pole of the season.
Button was second and Felipe Massa third for Ferrari, while the Italian team’s top man, championship leader Fernando Alonso, managed no better than 10th on the grid for Sunday’s race.
Di Resta penalised
Sahara Force India driver Paul di Resta will drop down five places on the grid for opting for an unscheduled gearbox change.
Resta has been handed a five-place penalty after Force India opted to change the gearbox on his car, VJM05.
Di Resta, currently 15th in the drivers’ championship on 28 points, had not completed a minimum of five races with the gearbox as the rules stipulate.
