The Madras Motor Sports Club will host the fourth round of the Petronas Asian Road Racing Championship, one of Asia’s most prestigious racing events for bikes, at the Irungattukottai Motor Race Track from September 3 to 6 under the banner ‘Sidvin Festival of Speed’.
The first category of championship will feature 600cc superbikes with riders from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan and India in a grid of 26 bikes. This will be followed by the underbone 115cc class.
The five Indians in the 600cc superbike class are K. Rajini, Preetham Dev Moses and Samir of Red Rooster Racing Team, Emmanuel Jebaraj from Ten Ten Racing and Dilip Rogger as an independent entry.
The underbone 115cc class will feature three Indians – T.K. Vishwanath, Harry Sylvester and P.Karthik, all of Team TVS.
At the end of the first three rounds — held at Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia in the April-June period — Malaysian racer Chalermpol Polamai leads the 600c superbikes category with 120 points, followed by compatriot Decha Kraisart on 118 points.
Indonesian Fitriansyah Kete leads the underbone 115cc class with 62 points, just ahead of Hadi Wijaya on 61.
