Armaan Ebrahim, the 21-year-old from Chennai, shrugged off a difficult weekend to salvage points with a seventh place finish in the second round of the Formula 2 championship here.
Armaan, sponsored by JK Tyre, Amaron, Cornerstone Sports and Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Trimex, came 11th in the first race on Saturday after starting 16th on the grid in a car best with gremlins to miss out on points.
After carrying out some changes, Armaan qualified eighth for the second round on Sunday and finished in the same position but was promoted to seventh after one of the front finishers was black flagged.
“I started the second race well and made one place, but the car in front spun at the Beckett’s corner, forcing me to run wide. It cost me three track positions but I managed to get back into eighth.
“In the first qualifying session on Saturday, we were three-tenths slower on new tyres than on old and I did my best to finish among points but couldn’t.
“We just could not find the right balance in the car the whole weekend and finally made some progress in qualifying 2 on Sunday but that was too late for a podium attack. Considering all this, it was nice to come away with some points.
“The car was really good in the test session last month when we were in the top 5, but over the weekend we struggled with the dampers and there was absolutely no grip in the medium and high-speed corners,” said Armaan.
