The Indian Olympic Association has allotted the 12th South Asian Games to Kerala to be held in November-December this year.
The IOA secretary-general, Rajeev Mehta, in a letter to the Kerala Olympic Association secretary, P.A. Hamza, on Tuesday hoped Kerala would be able to conduct the 12th South Asian Games successfully following the successful conduct of the 35th National Games, which was held between January 31 to February 14 this year.
“We would be happy to receive confirmation from the Government of Kerala and the proposed dates for the conduct of the Games in November-December this year covering a 12-day period. The proposed budget for the conduct of the Games will be approximately Rs. 70 crore and the Games programme will cover 22 disciplines,” the letter said.
Reacting to the letter, Hamza told The Hindu that the KOA would be moving the Government immediately as the matter has been discussed with the Sports Minister, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishanan, over the last few weeks.
“We are sure that the Government will support the venture as the allotment of the event in itself is due recognition to the State for having conducted the National Games successfully,” he said.
