London Olympics quarterfinalist, P. Kashyap showed nerves of steel to notch up a hard-fought three-game victory over seventh-seeded Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam, to reach the last eight of the China Super Series badminton in Shanghai on Thursday.

The World No. 23 Indian recovered after dropping a game to see off Tien 12-21, 22-20, 21-14.

The Indonesian pair of Riky Widianto and Puspita Richi Dili proved too good for the young Indian duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Siki Reddy, beating them 21-11, 21-15 in just 24 minutes.

The Indian men’s doubles pair of Tarun Kona and Arun Vishnu also lost to top seed Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denmark 10-21, 8-21 in 32 minutes.

Men: P. Kashyap bt Henri Hurskainen 21-15, 21-15; Ajay Jayaram lost to Daren Liew 18-21, 21-16, 14-21; R.M.V. Gurusaidutt lost to Takuma Ueda 21-11, 13-21, 11-21.

Doubles: Tarun Kona & Arun Vishnu bt Erdenebayar Enkhbold & Zolzaya Munkhbaatar 21-2, 21-4; Manu Attri & Sumeeth Reddy lost to Alvent Yulianto Chandra & Markis Kido 21-17, 13-21, 21-11; Pranav Chopra & Akshay Dewalkar lost to Xiaolong Liu & Zihan Qiu 25-27, 17-21.

Women: P.V. Sindhu lost to Eriko Hirose 20-22, 21-14, 19-21.

Mixed doubles: Akshay Dewalkar & Pradnya Gadre lost to Chen Xu & Jin Ma 5-21, 17-21; Arun Vishnu & Aparna Balan lost to Mads Pieler Kolding & Kamilla Rytter Juhl 9-21, 19-21.
