Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 from tomorrow

Junior Super Kings, a Twenty20 inter-school cricket tournament introduced by Chennai Super Kings, will start from September 5 here.

The tournament, sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., will be held in association with The Hindu, and is supported by the TNCA.

Addressing the media here on Monday, K.S. Viswanathan, Secretary, TNCA said: “Times have changed with students under a lot of pressure to decide between sports and academics. A right blend of sports and academics is what we are looking at.”

The tournament, which will see participation from 32 Chennai based schools, will comprise a total of 31 matches with the final to be played on Sept. 29.

The matches till the quarterfinals will be played at St. Bede’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ grounds, while the semifinals and the final are scheduled at the IC Guru Nanak College ground.

The winner and the runner-up will be awarded a rolling trophy each.

Chandrabhan, GM (Marketing), India Cements Ltd., said that the four semifinalists will be mentored by top players from the Chennai Super Kings and the India Cements teams.

He added that the larger idea was to take the tournament beyond Chennai in future.

Yuvaraj scalps six

V. Yuvaraj scalped six for 45 as Dorairaj Memorial CC defeated Youngsters CC by eight wickets in the TNCA IV division ‘C’ cricket league recently.

Book Sellers 173 in 49 overs (R. Vasantha Raj 36, V. Ashok Kumar 35, C. Francis Rajini Roy five for 43) bt TUC 140 in 39.2 overs (S. Syed Ibrahim 32, C. Gokula Krishnan three for 30).

Youngsters CC 80 in 31.5 overs (V. Yuvaraj six for 45, M. Srinivasan three for 12) lost to Dorairaj Memorial 83 for two in 24.1 overs (G. Anand 33, B. Prahdhan 30 n.o.).

Magnet 256 for nine in 50 overs (Shyam Srinivasan 61, A.K.G. Vijay Anand 56, S. Pradosh Murthi 39, V. Stalin 35 n.o., A. Sathya five for 59) bt Bharathi SC 201 in 43 overs (M. Karthikeyan 75, S. Udaya Praveen 39, J. Mohana Krishnan 34, K. Vijay Govind three for 52).
