Jammu and Kashmir police will organise a three-day sports festival in the winter capital of the state here from October 17.

“Police, under civic action programme, will organise a three-day Jammu-Samba-Kathua range sports festival 2011 from October 17 at Mini Stadium in Parade here,” deputy inspector general of police (DIG), Jammu-Kathua range, Farooq Khan told reporters here today.

During the festival, more than 20 teams from three districts will participate; he said adding these teams will comprise about 1200 girls and boys.

Police will arrange all the facilities, including lodging, boarding, to the sportspersons who will be participating in the festival, he said.

“Our main purpose behind organising such type of festivals is to remove the gap between police and public. We had already organised many such programmes and will always organise the same in the state.”

The main games in the festival will be Kabadi, Volleyball, Kho kho and Indian style wrestling (Chinj), the DIG said.

Jammu and Kashmir Police will also organise a Asia Cup championship for deaf and dumb here in near future, he added.

Khan said that in the wrestling competitions, the winner of light weight bout would be conferred with the title of ‘Jammu Kumar’, the middle weight with ‘Jammu Kesari’ and the winner of the heavy weight category would be given the title of Rustam-e-Jammu.
