We’ve just completed our third home win with another good all-round performance. The lads are certainly enjoying this positive run and from a personal point of view, it was very pleasing to be back among the runs.
Those of you who follow me on Twitter will know that I dedicated that knock against Kolkata as a birthday gift to my mother.
I had forgotten to do so at the presentation ceremony but nonetheless, she was very happy and thankful for the present and I hope she lives to see many more knocks like that from me.
I can tell you that she does watch a lot of cricket back home but you’re never going to catch her at an IPL game simply because travelling is not really her cup of tea.
She hates being in an elevator, let alone in an airplane, so her favourite spot is on the couch at home with the telly in front of her.
I often get asked about my approach to T20 cricket and really, there’s no secret.
You have to be a lot smarter than thinking it’s about firing away from the first ball.
I suppose I might have an advantage over other players in terms of having the power to hit big, but I believe it’s important to get yourself in before you start going for the big shots.
When I’m out in the middle, that’s when I feel I’m in the best position to assess the bowlers, the conditions, the match situation and I take it forward from there.
I know that despite our three wins, there’s still a long road ahead for us but I strongly feel that a key contributing factor to our success so far has been the unity within the dressing room.
So much fun
Trust me, the RCB dressing room is so much fun to be in. Everyone is so jovial and there’s so much of positive energy.
There is nobody who really feels like he’s under any undue pressure and we are like a family.
As you are aware, there are players from different countries and, like me, there are others who are far away from home. So it’s a big plus to have such a strong camaraderie going around.
Of course, we work our socks off in training and are absolutely focused on match days, but away from that, everyone has a good time off the field.
Every dressing room also has its dedicated prankster and in our case, I suppose I am the culprit.
One thing’s for sure though, there won’t be any time for pranks when we take on the IPL’s most successful team — Chennai Super Kings — on Saturday.
