“Our bowling has made the difference so far,” said Cameron White, close on the heels of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s thrilling victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday night.
“Our batsmen must make the bowlers’ task easier,” he said of the need to post bigger totals.
Underplaying his own role in the Super Over coda, he preferred being the low-key spokesman, despite his big-hitting ways when it came to the crunch.
Praises Styen
“Credit should go to Dale (Steyn),” said the Sunrisers vice-captain of the South African’s cool and controlled over that prevented Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli from overhauling the host’s tally.
“A lot of things could have been better,” said White when asked to look back at the cliff-hanger.
“Our batting, including my own, and fielding could have been better,” he said, unwilling to spare himself some of the blame.
Crucial assault
Asked to explain his small contribution in the regular innings and his transformation in the closing act, he said the thought of Chris Gayle waiting in the wings to launch an assault prompted Thisara Perera and himself to post a score that could be defended.
Quizzed about the ploy to introduce G. Hanuma Vihari in the firing line against Gayle, he said that masterstroke was devised by coach Tom Moody and skipper Kumar Sangakkara, alluding to the Caribbean’s devastating displays in the IPL.
Moises Henriques also complimented the Hyderabad youngster who dismissed Gayle.
“If he’s good enough to play in the IPL, he deserves respect,” said the strapping allrounder, who, while happy with his score and wickets, felt he’d have been happier if the result had gone RCB’s way.
