Kolkata Knight Riders’ spin mainstay Sunil Narine says fans and peers prefer to dub him a mystery bowler but it is more about focus and discipline that gives him success.

“In world cricket you don’t choose a name. It is given by fans and cricketers and you have to live up to it,” Narine said as Kolkata Knight Riders prepared ahead of its away match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Monday.

“I am working hard and getting the rewards. I am not intimidating in action but just try to give my best against the opponent,” he added.

The Trinidad and Tobago off-spinner said the Indian conditions are suitable for his art and he tries to make the most of it.

“Indian wickets suits spinner a lot. That helps my style and I hope things turn out well for me this season,” Narine said.

“I am not aiming for the purple cap (given to the leading wicket-taker in IPL).

The player said he always aim for the success of the team and that personal milestones do not count much for him. I just want the team to do well. I am always happy to contribute in the team’s success,” Narine said.

Among the upcoming challenges to his side Narine picked up his compatriot and the Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Chris Gayle as one big threat. “Gayle is one of the best T20 batsmen in the world. I hope he will not be in that devastating form against us,” Narine said.

Among his personal favouritesare Muttiah Muralidharan and Virender Sehwag.
