Captain Gautam Gambhir feels that Kolkata Knight Riders, as a professional team, has to keeping winning irrespective of its position in the points table.

“As professionals we need to go out and win, that is our job. It does not matter where we are placed in the table, we have to go out and give our best in the remaining matches,” Gambhir said as KKR looked ahead to meeting Pune Warriors India.

“As the defending champion it is not necessary that we will be champions just because we won the title last year. One has to perform well to be in title contention,” Gambhir said.

“In order to get success it is essential that all the departments perform equally well. The balance is necessary. It did not happen in many of our matches,” he added, looking at the inconsistent showing by his side so far.

“The wicket is fine and one cannot blame the pitch for a failure to perform. In the last match here Royal Challengers Bangalore failed in their batting but you can get a good score if you apply yourself well,” Gambhir said, referring to the low scoring affair in his team’s previous outing.

Donald disappointed

Pune Warriors India head coach Allan Donald was a disappointed man with the way his team failed to deliver despite having enough talent in its fold. “The team has staged very good fights in the tournament but we have not produced the results. There has been some great efforts but it did not help us cross the line,” Donald said looking at the team’s nine consecutive losses in a total of 12 defeats.

“It is a hard thing to sit out in the dugout and take in so many losses. I have never been in such a position in my playing career,” the former South African speedster said.

“I have tried extremely hard to motivate the players and make them believe in their potential. We have not played winning cricket but the team has not fragmented despite all the disappointment,” Donald said.
