Feroz — a bookie who was allegedly in touch with members of the underworld based in Dubai and Karachi and served as a connecting link between them and other bookies based in India — has been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in connection with the IPL spot-fixing case.
The arrest, made at Mumbai on Tuesday, takes the total number of accused in the case to 28. Following his arrest, Feroz was brought to Delhi on a transit remand and produced before a local court here on Wednesday which sent him to police custody for five days.
It is learnt that the investigators had been looking for the 35-year-old man since his name featured in some of the intercepted phone calls between bookies and their conduits and had also cropped up during the interrogation of the other accused.
“We had been looking for him for quite some time but he managed to evade arrest as he had left Mumbai and fled to Jammu and Kashmir. On a tip-off on Tuesday, the police laid a trap and arrested Feroz from Kamathipura area of the city. We have evidence to suggest that he was linked to the underworld,” said a police source.
Others, such as Ramesh Vyas and Ashwini Aggrawal alias Tinku Mandi, have also been accused of having direct connection with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his close aide Chhota Shakeel.
