Had to end with a bang, typical IPL. And that concludes the player auction for IPL 4. End of the IPL road for some old lions like Saurav Ganguly, Jayasuriya, Chris Gayle, Mark Boucher. Not a taint on the reputation of these greats, I'm sure, rather an indication that IPL is a stage meant for the young. Moreover, there's stil tomorrow, when requests can be made for uncapped players. It's been a pleasure bringing you live updates. Grateful farewell from Ashwin Achal and Anand Venkateswaran.

6:00: A bit of drama again, Pune has requested Kaif back - Pune bids for Kaif, Deccan Chargers want him now. Will Pune bid higher? Pune says no. Changes their mind, $120,000. Is it over? Not by a long shot, says Mallya, who makes a surprise entry into the bid. And Pune backs down, as do Deccan Chargers. Kaif goes to the Royal Challengers - for $130,000.

Now that qualifies as breaking news. No Ganguly, no Gayle in the second round. Good news for Murali Kartik, he was absorbed for $400, 000 by Pune.

5:54: South Africa's Robert Fryinck - $20,000. Delhi bids first. And Frylinck is sold.

5:53: Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath - $50,000. No bidders.

5:47: Australia's Luke Ronchi $50,000 for the wicketkeeper. Who needs one? Delhi, Pune, no one. Remains unsold.

5:46: Moises Henriques - $50,000 for this Australian. Mumbai INdian bid first, and buy him without challenge.

5:45: South Africa's Bosman - $50,000. Unsold. This is getting a tad tedious. Australia's Xavier Doherty - $100,000. The team owners are actually folding their hands. Unsold

5:30: Lendl Simmons, for $50,000, remains unsold.

5:29: Mohammad Kaif, for $100,000. Kaif is unsold. Murali Kartik, base price $200,000. travesty if he's not picked up this time around. Pune is interested, make the opening bid. Royals want him now, both teams raising their semaphores in succession now. Murali's price now $400,0000, Pune's that last bid. And Pune have bought Murali Kartik.

5:26: This is quite strange. The players don't come under the hammer unless a team has requested it. And yet, no bidders.

5:26: Australia's Daniel Harris, $20,000 He goes unsold too. South Africa's David Miller, for $100,000. No bidding. Dillon du Preez is also unsold.

3:08:For those who came in late, here's more from Vijay Kumar -

In the IPL player auction, Ausralian allrounder Daniel Christian gained the highest price on Sunday at $900,000 from Deccan Chargers, which was a sensational jump from his base price of $50,000. “He is a very good allrounder and he is worth the money,” said Gayathri Reddy, one of the co-owners of Deccan Chargers.

Meanwhile Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming said that his team wanted a sense of continuity and camaraderie from the earlier squad besides indulging in some fresh players. “We want that continuity to go on and we have brought back a few players. We do have a few spots available and we will decide our plans during the lunch break,” Fleming said.

3:06:Here's something to chew on while the tournament draw is on. Many English players, who came with high base prices, were left unsold over the last day and a half. Sports Correspondent K.C. Vijaya Kumar gets us some perspective -

With a majority of England players being given the cold-shoulder in the Indian Premier League players auction here on Sunday, the IPL chairman Chirayu Amin was asked about whether there was any issue about getting the requisite NOC from the England and Wales Cricket Board. Amin, who addressed the media during the lunch break, said: “There are no issues and there is no controversy. We got the NOC. As for franchises not picking England players, it is up to the team management and the IPL Governing Council cannot do anything about it.” Meanwhile Darren Lehmann, the Deccan Chargers coach, countered and said: “We picked Kevin Pietersen so it all depends on what the teams want.”

3:02: Chennai Super Kings and King's XI Punjab have been asked to make a draw from the hat. Two teams at a time, drawing lots to prepare the schedules - team and venue.

3:01: The bidders are back in the room, they've taken their places on the tables. The semaphores are at the ready, although a little heavier.
