Defending champion Town High School, Sundergarh survived a scare before winning its opening game in the Nehru sub-junior boys hockey tournament here on Friday. Town High won 3-2 against VSA Senior Secondary School, Khera Garhi, Delhi, in Pool A of the Super League stage of the competition at the Shivaji Stadium. It took a 3-0 lead early on but the Delhi boys hit back in the second half, scoring quick goals.
In another game, former champion Government Senior Secondary School, Ladowali was upset by qualifier CRZ senior secondary school, Sonepat 4-3 in Pool C.
The teams were tied 3-3 till the end before Abhishek scored the winner for his team in the 70th minute with only seconds to go for the hooter.
Earlier, Government Model high School, Chandigarh and Indira Priyadarshini School, Bhopal won their respective league matches to qualify for the Super League.
