India draws with Holland

Skipper Sandeep Singh helped India script a 3-3 draw in the second and final hockey Test against the Netherlands here on Sunday. India was trailing 1-3 when Sandeep Singh slotted two penalty corner goals to draw level against the European Champion at the Wagener Stadium.

It was India that sailed into the lead thanks to Gurivinder Singh Chandi. But the team failed to hold on to it as Holland hit back. Rogier Hoffman produced the equaliser and Taeke Takema obtained the lead for the home team. Ronald Brouwer then enlarged the lead to 3-1.

India, which lost the opening Test on Friday 3-5, was on the edge of losing the second and final tie too, but Sandeep rose to the occasion with the two well-struck penalty corner goals.

With this match, India completed the four nation tour of England, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands.

All the four teams are in preparation mode for the forthcoming European Nations Championship starting at Amstelveen on August 22.
