Hockey: Haryana and Jharkhand in last four

The women’s teams from Haryana and Jharkhand strolled into the semifinals of the sub-junior National hockey championships on Thursday.

Haryana registered its third consecutive win of the tournament, defeating Jharkhand 5-1 in a Pool B encounter at the SAI Centre here. However, despite the loss, Jharkhand advanced to the knockout stage, finishing second in the group by virtue of a better goal difference against other teams in its group.

In another Pool B match, Aishwarya Chavan scored twice for Maharashtra to register a 2-1 victory over Andhra Pradesh.

The results:Women: Pool A: Chandigarh 7 (Anjali 3, Saroj 2, Manisha, Poonam) bt Karnataka 0; MPHA 2 (Anuja Singh, Suman) bt Odisha 0; Pool B: Haryana 5 (Ritu, Manpreet, Navpreet, Nidhi, Sonika) bt Jharkhand 1 (Nisha Rani); Maharashtra 2 (Aishwarya Chavan 2) bt Andhra Pradesh 1 (Spandana Bokam).

Men: Pool A: Jharkhand 6 (Mahendra Topno, Amit Bhengra, Deepak 2, Joseph Nag, Budu Tuti) bt Maharashtra 3 (Ajinkya Jadhav, Sumit Prasad 2); Pool B: Chandigarh 11 (Harmeet Singh 4, Mandeep Mor 3, Harkirat Singh, Milanpreet Singh, Harjat Singh, Gurjeet Singh) bt Tamil Nadu 0.
