HI selects 34 probables for Women’s CL

Hockey India on Thursday short-listed 34 probables at the end of the first phase of the selection trials to pick the team for the seventh FIH women's Champions Challenge to be held at Dublin from June 18 to 26.

The selectors — Col. Balbir Singh, B. P. Govinda, Syed Ali, Manohar Topno and Thoiba Singh — picked the probables at the end of two-day trials held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here.

Government observers Harbinder Singh and Dilip Tirkey were part of the selection committee.

The final squad of 18 will be finalized on May 9 and 10. The eight-nation FIH Tournament will feature India, Azerbaijan, Japan, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, USA and Ireland.

The probables: Goalkeepers: Deepika Murty, Yogita Bali, Jasdeep Kaur, E. Rajani, Savita and Chaitali Dubrekar; Defenders: Joydeep Kaur, Subhadra Pradhan, Preety Sunila Kiro, Jaspreet Kaur and Vaishali Sul; Midfielders: Asunta Lakra, Kirandeep Kaur, Deepika, Mukta P. Barla, Th. Ranjita Devi, Rosalind Ralte, Ritu Rani, Sunita Lakra and Gagandeep Kaur. Forwards: Surinder Kaur, Jasjeet Kaur Handa, Soundarya Yendala, Monika, Rani, Saba Anjum, Chanchan Devi, Anuradha Devi, Roselin Dung Dung, Poonam Rani, Mamta Kharab, Rashmi Singh, Prakash Choudhary and Meenu Hooda.
