Germany defeats World champion Australia
India lost 4-2 to Great Britain in the VISA four-nation hockey tournament in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 5,000 at the Olympic Park here on Thursday.
India lacked pace at the beginning of the match and was stunned with a reverse stick shot by Robert Moore in the fourth minute from the top of the circle. This was followed by a goal by Simon Mantell.
India pulled one back with the first penalty corner from Raghunath, but Great Britain scored two more goals through Ashley Jackson before half time to make the score 4-1.
The second half saw India come back when Sandeep scored from an unstoppable penalty corner for India's second goal.
Gurvinder Singh Chandi and Uthappa energised the attack frequently, thanks to the good work in the mid-field by Sardar Singh.
Coach Nobbs observed after the match, “we are here to learn, and we are learning fast.”
In the other match, Olympic champion, Germany defeated the World champion, Australia 3-2.
Friday was a rest day.
