The Argentine men’s hockey team secured qualification for the 2014 World Cup by defeating England 3-1 in Saturday’s semifinal at the current World League Round 3 tournament held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

“It’s great because we are qualified now. It’s a dream for us”, Argentine coach Carlos Retegui said. “Our players performed very well today.” Argentina started off well with Facundo Callioni scoring after three minutes of play. Juan Eduardo Garreta doubled the Argentine lead just four minutes later with Gonzalo Peillat’s (11th minute) penalty corner shot extending the lead to 3-0.

England’s consolation goal came off a penalty corner, Nick Catlin had the final touch with 21 minutes remaining on the clock. “I think it was clear that England will put pressure on us in the second-half,” Retegui said.
